Brazilian Programs
The capillarity of public policies to encourage culture, such as the Paulo Gustavo Law, has resulted in a voluminous production of short films, which is symptomatic of historically pent-up demand. Like a double-edged sword, the democratization of access to financing has led to the emergence of audiovisual works across a broad spectrum of intimacy with the craft of filmmaking.
Thus, the 36th edition of the Kinoforum received an unprecedented number of more than 800 submissions of Brazilian films. The selected short films comprise the twelve programs of Mostra Brasil, in addition to programs from Cinema em Curso, Mostra Infantojuvenil, and some films distributed in Limite and Nocturnu, as these last two programs promote dialogue between Brazilian and international genre films.
Thus, the Brazilian programs are configured as a compass rose that points to the cardinal points of this national film scene in its regional multiplicities and aesthetic languages, without losing sight of the diversity of gender, race, and sexuality. In each session, the films are selected based on the challenging exercise of a curatorial body that is collective in its historical-political insertion, but also attentive to the boldness of works that do not shy away from taking risks.
